Other formulated rankings place Brandon Compton well above where OOPSY does. The Formulated Consensus has the Marlins’ 22-year-old left fielder at No. 21 among hitters, while OOPSY has him at No. 47, a 26-spot gap. OOPSY’s projection explains why it has him where it does.

The Other Lists Are All In

All 8 lists in the Formulated Consensus rank him. Four of the 7 partner lists that rank him put him inside their top 100. The one notably cooler view is Prospect Larceny’s formulated ranking (PLFR), which has him No. 67. Most of the other formulated rankings are higher on him than OOPSY is.

Power Is the Calling Card

Start with what OOPSY’s projection likes. Power is his best STS grade at 60, and his projected 25 homers at peak rank 8th among the 91 hitters in OOPSY’s top 100. That kind of pop plays in any fantasy format, and it’s the main reason he still lands at No. 55 in the STS fantasy ranking.

Where the Model Pulls Back

The rest of the bat is where OOPSY cools off. His hit grade is 45, below the MLB-average mark of 50, and his projected 106 wRC+ ranks 58th of those 91 hitters, just under the group’s median of 109. Add it up and his projected 2.1 Peak WAR ranks only 90th in the top 100. OOPSY projects a big power bat with closer-to-average overall production, and that projection is why OOPSY ranks him No. 47.

What Moves Him Up

The path runs through contact. If his approach and contact improve enough to lift his overall production at the plate, wRC+ is the number most likely to move OOPSY. Cracking the top 50 is the next real step. No. 50 today is Mike Sirota with a projected 2.8 Peak WAR, five spots ahead, and that 0.6 Peak WAR gap has to close through Compton’s own numbers, not by waiting for players above him to slip. That’s what the numbers point to, not a scouting report on how he gets there.

What to Watch

OOPSY’s ranking sits 55% below the Formulated Consensus, so the other formulated rankings place him much higher. In OOPSY’s projection, his power is the strength and his hit tool and overall production are what hold him back. For dynasty managers, the hit tool is the thing to watch. If his contact improves, OOPSY’s projection should rise and close some of that gap. If it doesn’t, expect the gap to hold.
