Player Pool Two – The Four Contenders

Wade Meckler – San Francisco Giants

.371/.456/.510 across High-A → AA → AAA → MLB debut. The 8th-round senior sign out of Oregon State hit .400+ for half the year and walked more than he struck out. Pure hit tool with shockingly little swing-and-miss. Power is minimal, but the average could contend for batting titles.

Justin Crawford – Philadelphia Phillies

.332/.392/.467 with 47 SB at age 19 in A-ball. Elite speed (70-grade run), growing power, and a sweet left-handed stroke. Carl Crawford’s son looks like a future leadoff monster.

Jasson Dominguez – New York Yankees

.265/.377/.425, 15 HR, 40 SB across AA/AAA, then 4 HR in his first 8 MLB games before Tommy John. The Martian is back — 70-grade power, plus speed, and finally a usable hit tool. Return expected May/June 2024.

Jackson Chourio – Milwaukee Brewers

.282/.338/.467, 22 HR, 44 SB at age 19 in AA/AAA. Signed for $2M out of Venezuela, Chourio already has the loudest five-tool profile in the minors. The second half (.310/.887 OPS after the pre-tacked ball switch) showed what he’s truly capable of.

The Winner: Jackson Chourio

He took home two of the three awards:

  • Scout the Statline Model #1
  • Follower vote on Twitter (X)

Dominguez won the staff vote by a hair, but Chourio’s combination of age, level, production, and tools was simply unmatched. At 19 years old in the upper minors with 20-40 potential, he’s the closest thing we’ve seen to a five-category superstar since Ronald Acuña Jr.

2023 StS MiLB Outfielder of the Year (Part 2): Jackson Chourio

The Brewers already signed him to an 8-year, $82M extension before he’s played a single big-league game. That tells you everything you need to know.
