Prospect of the Day: Leanders Matos, the Path From Here
PROSPECT OF THE DAY: LEANDERS MATOS
3B, MIL | as of 10/31/2026
Of the 91 hitters in the OOPSY Peak top 100, not one is younger than Leanders Matos. The Brewers’ 16-year-old third baseman checks in at No. 97 in the STS fantasy ranking, which makes him a rare thing in dynasty: a top-100 name you can still roster before most leagues know who he is. Here is where he sits, what the model wants to see from him and why the next few months matter.
A Quiet Climb
Matos has been steady rather than spectacular on the board. He has held at No. 97 over the past week and is up one spot over the past 30 days. No splashy jump yet, but he is moving in the right direction, and for a teenager who is already in the top 100, steady is a good sign.
Four Years Ahead of the Curve
This is the headline. The median hitter in the top 100 is 20 years old. Matos is 16. Of those 91 hitters, 90 are older than him and none are younger. Every top-100 bat around him has had years more time to develop, and the model still has him in the group. That age gap is the whole bet: if his game grows with his body, his ranking has a lot of room to climb.
What Moves Him Up
Matos projects for 1.5 Peak WAR. Devin Fitz-Gerald, one spot ahead at No. 96, sits at 2.5. To crack the top 50, Matos would need to pass 47 prospects, and No. 50 today is Mike Sirota at 2.8 Peak WAR. That is a real gap, but it comes down to about 1.3 wins of projection, and at 16 he has plenty of time to close it.
The number to watch is on-base percentage. His projected .312 OBP is the weakest part of his Peak line, and the median top-100 hitter projects for .331. If Matos starts showing more on-base ability in his stat lines, that is the piece most likely to move the model. This is what the numbers flag, not a scouting report on how he gets there.
The Market Hasn’t Caught Up
Here is the dynasty angle. Only 3 of the 8 lists in our Formulated Consensus rank Matos, one short of the four needed to earn a consensus Avg Rank. OOPSY already has him in the top 100 while most of the market does not have him ranked at all. If you play in a deep dynasty league, he is the kind of name worth stashing now, before the other lists catch up and the price goes up.
