OOPSY is a lot higher on Ralphy Velazquez than the other formulated rankings are. Among hitters, OOPSY ranks the Guardians first baseman No. 21, while the Formulated Consensus, a blend of other projection-based rankings, has him No. 46, 25 spots lower. Overall he sits No. 26 in the STS fantasy ranking with a projected 2.3 Peak WAR, and his case is built on power.

OOPSY Sits 25 Spots Higher

All 8 lists in the Formulated Consensus rank Velazquez, and together they land on No. 46 among hitters. They’re widely spread, though. Prospect Larceny’s formulated ranking (PLFR), for one, has him No. 24, close to OOPSY’s No. 21, and five of the 7 partner lists that rank him have him inside their top 100.

A Plus Power Bat

Velazquez grades out at hit 55, power 60, speed 20 and defense 40 on the STS scale. That’s two tools above the MLB-average mark of 50, and power is the plus one: only 3 of the 91 hitters in the top 100 grade higher than his 60.

His projected OOPSY Peak line backs the grade up. His 25 homers rank 8th of the 91 top-100 hitters, and his 121 wRC+ ranks 17th. That kind of pop plays in any fantasy format, and it’s the main reason he lands at No. 26 overall.

No Help From the Legs or the Glove

The other two tools don’t add anything. His 20 speed and 40 defense grades both sit below the MLB-average mark of 50, so at first base the bat has to carry him.

Edward Florentino Holds the Next Spot

Cracking the top 25 overall is the next real step, and the player in that spot is Pirates center fielder Edward Florentino at No. 25. Florentino projects for 3.2 Peak WAR to Velazquez’s 2.3, a gap of 0.9. That bump would most likely come from stolen bases.

Steals Are the Hole in His Line

Velazquez projects for one steal, which ranks 83rd of 91 hitters in the OOPSY Peak top 100. The median hitter in that group projects for 13. If more speed shows up in his stat lines, that’s the piece most likely to move OOPSY. With a 20 speed grade, though, it’s a long shot, so for now his value rides on the bat.

A Fair-Price Hold

OOPSY’s ranking sits 54% above the Formulated Consensus, but that doesn’t make him cheap to acquire. Scout-based rankings, which we use as a rough stand-in for trade prices, have him inside the top 25, right around his No. 26 spot in the STS fantasy ranking. You probably won’t buy him at a discount, and there’s no reason to sell. Hold him for the power and treat any steals as a bonus.
